Sorry for the late reply.
I just replaced one of the bad looking icons with an icon including 3 sizes (32x32, 24x24, 16x16) and it looks sharp and readable now. Seems like the automatic resizing of the icon by AECOsim made it look bad. The icons I used were 48x48, which means they were resized by AECOsim to fit the space provided, which didn't seem to be a problem before. No idea why the W10 update changed that. But it seems creating different size icons so AECOsim doesn't need to resize them does the trick.
