Need to bear in mind that DV's are dynamic and will not caclulate everything to the highest accuracy like Mstn's old hidden line export / DEM do. CVE's are aimed at drawing production and processing can taking a bit longer. BV's add unification, patterning and other tricks like autoannotation that will take even longer.
Mstn/ABD's drawing extraction tools have never really provided satisfactory results for architects OTB. The usual caveats apply: you might be able to get usable results for plan views, and large scale (1:100-200) type drawings, but eventually there will be a lot of overdarwing to get the results you want. ABD users have accepted this because the drafting tools in Mstn are very good and well understood. You will see a lot of drawings that look very good as a result because of the control you get when everything is done manually.
The problem starts when there is alot of repetition. In these cases, using BV's Compound Cells \ Drawing Symbols tools, which also allows 3d elements to be used as part of the Drawing Symbol proxy. With flat facades, I have seen GC used as tool to place and manage large arrays of cladding panels, in combination with Ref clipping etc to restrict Visible Edge processing to where is it absolutely needed.
All the BIM apps leverage their extract from 3d tools in combination with their 2d tools. Revit, ArchiCAD, Vectorworks, Allplan, Renga, EliteCAD etc can produce very usable results. Note sure about BRICS or Visarq, but I am sure that they are improving. ABD seems hampered by a start and stop, pass the puck development shared between platform and the ABD vertical teams. Over the last few years, it looks like the platform team is more interested in the large scale display engines provided by Bentley's acquisition of LumenRT (ConceptStation); and its involvement in the Cesium Consortium (Bentley Map 3d?).
BV's are missing a lot of functionality that DEM has. DEM is due to be retired with the upcoming ABD CE. Hopefully, we will see BV's get a shot in the arm with ABD CE U1or2. Mstn CE's DV's are a lot faster and has introduced an incremental CVE mode that is not as quick as it should be and its AutoUpdate mode is currently a liability as a result.
Connect also has Display Rules, which has some advanced resymbolisation functionality. Fosters have been tinkering with this almost as if they were looking at ways of avoiding the use of ABD...
In summary, getting good drawing results is a messy process that will take a lot of experimentation. It would be good to document your journey.
