RE: Why hasn't Aecosim cornered the Airport/Aviation BIM market?
or not but Revit can handle landscapes pretty well (it can import LandXML files and create landscape using the Toposurface)
I gather a lot of landscape architects would disagree with you.

One of the problems is that a lot of landscape architects and civil engineers are caught between two worlds. A civil engineer would never design his roadways, ponds etc using a landscape arch tool, and civil engineering tools like C3D is too much for most land archs to swallow.

"“Architects have almost exclusively gone the Revit route, and civils usually go through [Autodesk’s AutoCAD] Civil 3D. And yet here we are in this arcane style of designing and document production. Between the two—civils and architects—which one do we end up going toward? Or will there be a tertiary type of platform created just for our industry? It almost seems like there needs to be.”
It can also import GIS Data from AutoCAD Civil 3D info.
Yea... that is the problem... it always has to import and translate before being able to work on something. People are so used to this that they don't see the benefits of not having to do this. I remember one presentation at AU where the presenter was telling the audience how great it was that there were some many Autodesk apps like 3d max, ACAD, C3d, Revit and Infraworks that you could use for different things. What a disaster. I think most people would be cringing as they know everytime they convert and modify there will inevitably something missing and another 'duplicate' file to deal with.

Autodesk shot itself in the foot by having so many 'platforms'... which is a pain for the user.
Bentley needs to let people know they are there and not hide under a rock and wait to get discovered. Bentley has never really advertised its products which makes them unknown to the world.
Yea... but actually, I think it shouldn't waste its money on advertising. It should use whatever pennies it has to fund an 'aviation task / sales force' that has technical teeth and not just a few glossy animations. Maybe it needs to adopt an emerging airport authority in India or someplace in the emerging world and dev the tools and workflows there before returning to Westeros with dragons :-)
Oh and... even AECOsim can't handle big files, the more data you add the heavier and unworkable your file gets. If I give you one job to do, you will do it quickly if I start adding more jobs, you will struggle
Sure, but you are referring to a 32bit app. We shall see with Connect. I have first hand experience with Aecosim size limitations. All I can say is that Revit would have died long before Aecosim on the job.
