Sheet index and fields

Hi

I'm trying to get the sheet index to work my way. This is what I want to do/have done:

When I create a callout from my designfile I create a drawing and a sheet in separate files. I add the sheet to the sheet index. In the sheet index I've added some information by going to manage sheet index and under sheet added some properties. Both information I want to later display in my sheet index report, and some information I want to display in my drawing stamp. (The reason I want to add information to the sheet index that's only supposed to been shown in the drawing stamp is that it's easy to edit more than one at a time with sheet index, and I also have some information that shows in both the sheet index report and the drawing stamp, so I want them to origin from the same place.)

So I need a way to show the sheet properties attached to a sheetmodel as text in the model, and I create I textfield. This is where my problem starts. I of course want the drawingstamp to be in my seedfile, but my seedfile is not attached to a sheet index. When I create a textfield that is connected to a sheet index I chose model properties and then in the fields editor there is a headline called sheet properties. But if I create a text field in a drawing that's not added to a sheet index, the sheet properties are nowhere to be found.

So I did a little work around and temporarily added my seedfile (the sheetseed in my drawingseed_structural.dgnlib that holds my callout-seeds) to a sheet index. Got the sheet properties to appear in the fields editor and placed it in my sheet. I then removed the sheet from the sheet index.

After that I created a new callout from a designfile and created a drawing and sheet with that. When i open my sheet the text field just consists of "####" and is not connected to anything. I thought my workaround failed. But when I open the text editor and click on the edit fields-button I can see that the right field is selected and the right text is shown as preview (see image below). So when I click OK it displays the right text. But it kind of defeats the purpose if I have to do this with all my textfields in all my sheets. I also tried the update textfield-tool, but that don't work either.

So now I both wonder how I'm supposed to get what I want? If it's possible? And if not, why not?

Is there a better way to manage drawing, I had really high hopes for the sheet index since we've used third party applications to manage sheets before, and it was about time Bentley made their own, but right now I don't get it to work in a smooth way.

Regards,
Robert
