We understand the requirement and the behaviour in Revit 2017.
I have updated the enhancement I filed on this.
If anyone else would like to see this feature added to MicroStation (if implemented this would be a MicroStation feature, not one specific to ABD) please file a service request asking to be linked to Enhancement 613077: 'distinguish wall edges in elevation - provide depth cues'.
