OpenUnBuildings Designer ?

Interesting vid on how to demolishtall buildings. I suppose that implosions would be frowned upon these days, especially if we need to sort / recyle the resulting waste.

270 Park Avenue is slatted for demolition this year. There are probably a lot of tall buildings built in the 20C that are now reaching the end of their service lives. There should be a small but untapped niche market opening up here for an Unbuilding app?

Bentley has all these apps lying about waiting to be 'companioned' together, right? Maybe, it should have an internal Hack-a-thon. Past niche apps that have been cobbled togther incorporating tools from other apps or platform tech: Substation, BRCM, OpenSite, SUDA, MineCycle, OpenBridge, OpenRail, OpenUtilities etc

  • ContextCapture using Navvis to capture soft stripout items. ContextCapture Insights to catalogue all doors, MEP etc (not just cracks) for sorting/recylcing and re-selling.
  • OBD to build model for STAADPro, Synchro, quantification and miscellaneous design.
  • STAAD Pro Physical Modeler for temporary works and scaffolding design
  • Synchro for scheduling
  • ConstructSIM for workface planning
  • Plaxis to check ground movements/geostructural stability.
  • gINT, GAIA Insights for monitoring ground movements.
  • ProcureWare, eB, ProjWise Field Data Management for subcontractor management?

OpenBuildings upt 5 not connect well wall and column.

Hello.
I have determined a connection problem in walls in Upt 5 - OpenBuildings.

The following link from a private video on Youtube demonstrates this problem.

On a wall connecting two columns, only the second one is correct.

Cannot create Curtain Wall OBD U5

Trying to place a curtain wall I receive the below error. The placement grid displays when I attempt to place the CW, but fails to produce any geometry.

I was initially working with a custom dataset_UK, however, I have also tried this with standard delivered Dataset_UK and I get the same result.

However, If I open the local installed Building Project, with the same Dataset_UK, then I am able to place and edit the CW.

Any ideas why a network install would not allow placement, or if any variables that relate to this are required???? (As stated in other posts, there is no Dataset_UK delta document so I have had to upgrade blind)

Prevent Camera Collision does not prevent collisions.

I am trying to scroll through a design to verify that there are not internal piping/element collisions.  I have the camera turned on, the "Prevent Camera Collision" turned on, and I am trying to use the normal camera.  Display style is "Illustration: Without Lighting". "When I try to zoom into the room(s), the camera stops at the exterior wall of the facility.  When I rotate the view with model roof removed I can zoom in to the piping/elements, but I need to see them from a right of front view.  When I rotate back to the right or front view, the exterior walls are shown.  Another Bentley user, using OpenPlant Modeler is able to perform these review fine, but I can't using OpenBuilding (AECOsim).  Can anyone give me a hint as to what I am doing wrong, or if there are other setting that I have to change in order to zoom through the walls and other elements to see the piping/elements that I'm working with?

AECOsim PwojectWise Workflow

HI there,

I'm new in the Bently ecosystem., just learning the workflow. Here is a problem in which I stuck in and I need help to get it to resolve.

I made changes to the local dataset; made a new compound wall. Then, I uploaded the (part,  Cpart, Datagroup catalog ) xml files to the ProjectWise. I uploaded in the Support folder of the project.

Now, by opening file from the PW, I can see the part and Cpart are there in the ProjectWise. But, when I trie to open the cataloge editor, it freezes and I have to force close that. Furthermore, the compound wall that I have created is not available in the AecoSim wall library. Please advise

Thanks,

Usman

Since moving to update 5 I cannot see any workspaces or worksets.

Can anyone tell me which configuration files to edit? I used the connection client to carry out the upgrade.

[OBD U5] Color number mismatch

When i place a cell in OBD the color numbers are messed up.

On the left side you see the results when you place the cell in plain MicroStation(U12)

On the ride side, the same cell in OBD.

Of course the colors look different with different color tables, but the numbers should never be changed.

Color number should be 91.

A "testCase.cel" is attached.

Are colors treated different in OBD, or should i file a Service Request ?

Alternatively if I can use -wabatchprocess -i and -wc my Startup config file will define TFDIR_IFC. The below doesn't work

Echo Starting

Start /wait "batch" CMD /c AECOsimBuildingDesigner.exe -wabatchprocess "-iF:\751EW-ST-IFC-TEST.bprc" "-wcF:\FMG_V2_Startup.cfg"

Echo Done

Callouts don't update properly

Hi

I've got big problems with my callouts. First, let me explain our workflow. We create a file per floor and building in which we place 3D-elements. We reference all those models into 2 separate models, lets call them callout_plan and callout_section. One for plan-callouts and one for section callouts. Reason for this is that these files often get really slow when there are lots of callouts. We then create a drawing model from the seed drawing modeln, and not via the crate drawing option for callouts. We then reference the callout to the drawing model, set to cached. At least earlier the pattern didn't work in dynamic view, and the files get quite slow if the reference is in dynamic view.

Now I have a couple of problems.

1. Lets say I've drawn up one building and created callouts and models for that one. I then draw another builing beside it, and I want that in the same drawing model as I've already created. When I expand the callout in my callout_plan model to cover the new building. This expansion often don't work as it should. The cutlines are not the same in the callout_plan as it is in the drawing file that holds the calllout reference. I think I get problem when I reference a new model into the callout_plan after creating the callout.

2. I also have problem with seting display off for sertain models in sertain callouts. Seems it's not pushed trough to the drawing model, even though I update the reference from the saved view and so on.

3. Lets say I place the plans first, and then sections. The section will show the correct label for the plan callout, (but not if I change number or something like that) and the section callout's label won't say anything on my plan drawing. I've tried update all models, but seems it don't work.

Floor Manager Problems

I have a network drive for my workspaces and worksets. In each case I have added BB_FloorMaster.Dgnlib to the workset/standards folder based on the UK Template. I cannot add a building or floors to the floor manager and consistently get the message failed to check out the BB_FloorMaster.Dgnlib. Any ideas?

OBD U5 - Place Option not Opening if Ribbon is Being Used in Docked Mode

Also using 'Expand on Mouse Over'

Move cursor over the ribbon and activate Structural.

Click on any of the place member tools.

While it tries, the Place\Placement option does not auto-focus. Only way to activate it is to hard click.

Works fine if you switch the ribbon back to fixed.

Thanks,

Place callout behind active file

Hi

I've created a callout from a design file, and placed it in a drawing file. When I try to place annotations (purple lines) in the drawing file, they get placed behind the callout (slabs and wall) for the grey filled area.

I thought it could have something to do with the update sequence, but as you see my active file is on top.

Running Openbuildings (update 5).

Update 5 issues

Anyone else having issues with the latest update? For us we have had the following:

  • Accusnap errors (still persisting from the earlier versions)
  • Errors with pdf output not being WYSIWYG, some elements are hidden (persistent)
  • Dataset errors (new)
  • Drawing symbols styles now missing unless using or copying a previous file (new)
  • Dynamic view creation errors (new)
  • Generative components tools - some are now broken and not working as they were before (new)
  • Lots of other random errors and crashing

For me it seems like this latest release is a backwards step... I have been expecting things to improve with each and every update only to find it's the same old problems and in the case of this version actually worse now than before. I would be keen to hear if others are experiencing the same problems; I had to run a training the other day and it was a battle just to keep the software running the way it should!

Thanks,

Ed

OBD U5 - Member Placement - Match Element Fromcursor - Automatic Coping

No idea why this is happening, but it's very annoying. I have placed a number of members with Automatic Coping turned off. I want to place another member and on a function key use the keyin 'match element fromcursor' to match the member properties. The thing is, doing this turns Automatic Coping back on. Can't work out why.

Surely this isn't WAD.

Trouble Shooting Custom Line Styles

Trouble Shooting Custom Line Styles

An element 400 mm long should be repeated continuously, one after the other with no gaps. The element is turned into a Point component and the Stroke pattern designed as: Shift/Distance/0.0, Repetitions/Unlimited, Single Segment NOT ticked, Length/Fixed: 400 mm, Stroke Type/Dash, Invert at/None, Corners/Break, Width/None…

Problem: The Point component shows up when activating this line style, at the start point and at every data point placed, but not continuously. When inspecting Rail road line style, the ties just repeat at a certain distance until you end the Smartline. I have tried to tick Origin, Vertex, End but nothing happens. Any idea?

Thanks,

Ingemar

OBD Update 5 Configuration errors

I have removed ABD update 4 and now re-installed with a networked location for the workspaces and worksets. I think I need to fix the locations of associated cells and Dgnlibs but am a bit lost. Lots of errors despite lengthy research!

Clip volume not clipping drawing.

I am trying to make a plan of part of a building but I cannot seem to get it to clip. The attached image shows the bounding box. The resultant drawing does not show the clipped area but the entire model. This seems different from Update 4. Have I misssed something?
